Philly Play

HPC and Philly Play Youth, Tustin Recreaction Center

Philly Play is an initiative launched by City of Philadelphia Councilman Bobby Henon from the 6th District in Philadelphia. The goal of Philly Play is to help Philadelphia youth and their families build healthier lifestyles through fun, safe physical activity. In particular, HPC seeks to provide Philadelphia youth opportunities to get the recommended 60 minutes of daily physical activity.

HPC worked with Councilman Henon to design and develop Philly Play programming, and currently leads program implementation and coordination. Philadelphia Parks and Recreation Department, as partner in implementation, hosts and supports free physical activity programming at recreation centers across the City.

Philly Play builds confidence and skills among participating youth by bringing in skilled instructors and coaches to lead physical activity sessions. Participating youth learn and practice core skills in a variety of sports, including: basketball, baseball, football, dance, and other physical activities.

In addition, Philly Play offers children and their families’ information about low-cost active living resources and organizes fun health-oriented events in the City through its website and social media.
