Moriviví has been a grassroots program functioning independently for two years. Funding is now provided by the Social Innovations Grant through the Public Health Fund. Supported by individual and in-kind donations, including donated space by ASPIRA, Inc. of Pennsylvania.
Grupo Moriviví is a support group for Latina breast cancer survivors.
Many Latina women face cultural and linguistic barriers that prevent them from finding the services and resources they need. Moriviví offers its members monthly meetings to share their experiences about living with breast cancer and support one another in navigating the difficulties it brings. Moriviví also empowers its members by holding workshops around a number of topics including, financial budgeting, safety, domestic violence prevention, and arts and crafts.
Moriviví has a Patient Navigator and Peer Leaders to conduct comprehensive needs assessments for breast cancer survivors. The information collected is then evaluated to determine what referrals and resources will be appropriate for the survivor. The referrals are made through HPC, PHMC, and other community programs available in the Philadelphia area.
