COVID-19 Updates

Health Promotion Council (HPC) and its parent organization Public Health Management Corporation continue to monitor information on COVID-19/coronavirus. Our primary focus is the health, wellness, and safety of our clients and team members, and our community at large. We have been working diligently to ensure organizational preparedness, to continue providing services to our clients while ensuring extra preventive and precautionary measures are in place based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Philadelphia Department of Public Health.
What is coronavirus and how can you prevent the spread of COVID-19?
Coronavirus is an infectious disease that has caused a worldwide pandemic of respiratory illness called COVID-19.
We encourage all to take the appropriate precautions and preventive measures, including:

• Get vaccinated – authorized COVID-19 vaccines can help protect you from COVID-19.
• Wear a mask – everyone 2 years and older should wear masks in public.
• Maintain 6 feet between yourself and people who don’t live in your household.
• Avoid social gatherings, crowds, and poor ventilated spaces.
• Wash your hands often for at least 20 seconds especially after being in a public place.
• If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
• Always cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze or use the inside of your elbow. Dispose of the tissue and immediately wash your hands.
• Monitor your health daily. Stay home if you are feeling sick.

Information about the COVID-19 Vaccine and Its Benefits
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has authorized three vaccines for public use including Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson. The vaccines met the agency’s rigorous and science-based standards for quality, safety, and effectiveness. The COVID-19 vaccines have been tested in large clinical trials -- more than 110,000 adults from different races and ethnicities and with different health conditions.
COVID-19 vaccination works by teaching your immune system how to recognize and fight the virus that causes COVID-19, and this protects you from getting sick with COVID-19. Being protected from getting sick is important because even though many people with COVID-19 have only a mild illness, others may get a severe illness, have long-term health effects, or even die. There is no way to know how COVID-19 will affect you, even if you do not have an increased risk of developing severe complications. Protecting yourself also protects the people around you, like those at increased risk of severe illness from COVID-19 or those who can’t get vaccinated — like infants, children or people with weakened immune systems from things like chemotherapy for cancer.
The most common side effects reported by people after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine are mild to moderate symptoms: soreness at the injection site, and some flu like symptoms. All of which are temporary and shouldn’t last more than 2-3 days.
